Suicide Case of Yeggana and her Unborn Child in Telangana

In this new area of equality and literacy, it's shocking to see how people are still living with a backward mindset where they do not want a girl child. Is it too hard to understand that women are the makers of life, they have a special responsibility of bringing a new life into the world and still people think it's better to kill a girl child?

We are living in the 21st century, the world is progressing with new developments and ideas where both women and men share an equal part. It is heart-wrenching to find out that even in 2022 incidents of female foeticide can take place.

In Telangana, a 26yrs old woman killed herself solely because she feared she would give birth to a girl child. She was 9 months pregnant when she took this step of not just ending her life but also her unborn baby who didn’t even get a chance to come into this world.

Yeggana Ramya, a resident of the NTR Nagar colony in Macherial town, was already a mother of 3 yr old baby girl and didn't wish for another girl child. But is this actually true? Can you believe when I say a mother killed her own child?

If she feared the birth of a girl child why would she take this step in the last month and why would she kill herself along. There has to be something that led her to take this step, its unbelievable that she didn't want the child when she didn't know if the child was a girl or a boy. Just because of an assumption a woman who has gone through 9 months of excruciating pain, will just end hers and her unborn child’s life, it cannot be true.

The case that looks simple is often very complicated and judging the woman who is no longer with us is very harsh.

It is easy to judge people when you are not at their place, a woman can be a killer but not of her own child. Even though it's illegal to check the gender of an unborn child, there are many hospitals that still practice it, if a woman is that insecure about giving birth to a girl child she would have gone to extreme lengths to find out if the child she is carrying is a girl or a boy instead of taking her and her unborn child’s life.

The postmortem reports reveal that the unborn child was a boy but how does that matter when two lives are lost because of some insecurity and backward mentality.

I don't know what led her or forced her to take such a step but it is very crucial that we educate each and everyone living in this society to not differentiate between a girl and a boy, both are equal in every manner, and even if we have one and not the other our society cannot grow neither can our families.

We really need to think hard before differentiating between a man and a woman only then we can grow to be happy and peaceful!
