Man arrested for cheating women via matrimonial site
Social media has become a new norm and the easiest way of connecting with people around the world without having to spend a lot of time and effort. There are people with the genuine intention of finding friends and then there are people with fake profiles and intent of fraud.
A 35yr old man named Vishal (Anurag Chavan) of Kalyan, Thane was arrested this week for cheating women on the pretext of marriage. The fraud came to light after a 28yr old woman filed a complaint of fraud in kanjurmarg police station.
Vishal reached out to the woman on social media after finding her profile on the matrimonial site. He started talking to her and once gained trust, he requested 2.2Lakhs for investing in the stock market and promised her good returns. The woman figured out that she has been cheated once Vishal stopped responding to her calls and texts after receiving the money.
Since Vishal had an intent of fraud, he had put up a fake profile and address on the matrimonial site, after an FIR under section 420 of IPC was filed, police started investigating the matter and traced him in Thane.
The accused Vishal Chavan confessed that he had cheated around 35 women in a similar manner and collected around 15Lakhs from them. His plan of action was to reach out to rich women who were looking for a life partner, make false promises of marriage and then take money from them.
After investigating Vishal Chavan, police came to know that he was also involved in other fraud cases.
