Interstate Child Trafficking racket busted in Delhi & Rajasthan

Child trafficking has become the largest trade after the drug market both in India and in other countries. Poverty leads families to certain vulnerabilities and these vulnerabilities lead to exploitation. Many poor families are lured into trafficking in hopes of employment, a better future for their kids, or financial benefits. But in most cases, these kids are either sexually abused/ exploited or forced into labor and prostitution.

Money can make people do the worst of worst things one of which is trafficking. People involved in trafficking prove to be very dangerous, as kids once trafficked are hard to find and rescue.

In a recent event, 6 women of an alleged gang involved in infant trafficking were arrested in Delhi. The gang is believed to be involved in the trafficking of around 50 infants.  They lured poor families with money and sold these infants to childless couples at a much higher amount. This has become a source of income and a business for many such gangs.

On the 17th of December, Delhi police got a tip of this exchange near Shamshan Ghat in Gandhi Nagar, where three women were arrested with a 6-7months old baby boy. The very next day 3 more women were arrested who were trying to sell a baby girl.

Again this week in Alwal district of Rajasthan two more suspects named Rajinder Kaur(48yrs) of Sadar locality and Anand Kumar (38yrs) of Khairthal locality were arrested who were trying to sell a baby girl. All these people involved are believed to be members of the interstate trafficking racket.

Based on the reports of Police around 13 members of this interstate gang have been arrested. The gang was busted when two women and a man in an auto were traveling to sell the kids. The auto driver on listening to their conversations drove the auto directly to the police station and the infants were rescued.

Delhi police are expecting to execute further arrests based on the interrogation and findings from these suspects.

Kids involved in trafficking are denied normal growth and development. For the sake of young life, it’s important that we try to destroy these gangs involved in such trade as it’s a serious crime as well as a violation of human rights.
