Bulli Bai App: Spread of hate against women

While society is expecting great things from today’s generation, here is what we get, disgust in the name of an application invented purely to spread hate. Using an open-source platform GitHub, around 100 pictures of women were uploaded on the Bulli bai app for auction on January 1st. These images were taken from their social media platforms doctored and auctioned with a tag saying “ Your Bulli Bai of the day is (mentioning the name of the woman)

Here we were thinking that people are changing, their mindset is progressing and then incidents such as this take place that shatters any expectations we could have from society. Such objectionable and harsh comments written on the internet about women are unacceptable.

If at all we had taken a step to do something about the similar incident of last year's "Sulli deal'', this wouldn't have happened in the first place. It's a drawback to our society and an irresponsible act on the hands of people responsible for making it a safe place.

Now when this incident has taken such a wrong turn, the realization hits our police department and they decide to do something about it. Thankfully the case has been registered and there has been an arrest of a few individuals.

21yrs old Vishal Kumar Jha, an engineering student from Bangalore, 21yrs Mayank Rawal 18yrs old Shweta Singh from Uttarakhand have been arrested, there hasn't been any other revelation of culprits in the case yet. The case registered against the culprits includes sections 153(A), 153 (B), 295(A), 354(D), 509, 500, and section 67. The culprits were charged for defamation, the spread of hate, stalking, posting obscene images, and intent to disrespect women.

It's shocking to see that though India has come a long way, some of our youth have narrowed down their thoughts with a feeling of hate and supremacy.

Equality isn't just a word or a theory but an emotion, a feeling, a hope for all the people who go through discrimination based on their religion and gender. Putting an end to such acts is necessary and very much required for the sanity of people. India is famous and respected for its different cultures and traditions, let's not abuse that with such atrocity.

Cybercrimes in India have increased by 11% in the past few years. Many people do not even register cybercrimes but don't forget if you are not trying to stop something then you eventually become a part of it. There are many portals established for registering cyber crimes, please report if you come across any such thing. https://www.cybercrime.gov.in/

The national women helpline number is 181.

Be safe!
