Sexual Harassment at Madras University

Image
A 31 year- old Madras university student was sexually assaulted in broad daylight by the Head of the department(HOD) of the university on March 16th, 2021. She along with 4 other students approached the HOD regarding discrepancies in semester exam scores. And due to involvement in the previous protests of college, regarding hostel fees, the university failed the students in the exam. However, after revaluation, all the students were allotted passing marks. The HOD began touching her inappropriately during the conversation after which he also started pushing her on the chest, abusing her calling her weak and powerless. He even pushed one of the male students who tried to protect her. Despite being a Professor of a renowned university, he did not even hesitate for a minute before acting in such a manner with a student. He might have been sure about it not affecting him don't you think? In such renowned universities where students from all over the world get into for acquiring knowl...

Marital Abuse: A major issue we don't talk about!

Image
One of every 3 women is a victim of marital abuse in our society. Even though we try to avoid this issue as much as possible by overshadowing it with certain unreasonable reasons, the rate of incidents occurring in our society because of marital abuse has risen to the point that nothing can overshadow it. Abuse is not only when a woman is physically hurt but abuse is also when one person in a relationship tries to dominate and control the other one. It's specifically to gain control over the partner. They will use anything, be it fear, guilt, shame, or strength to push their partner down and to keep them under their fist of the hand. It is very indiscriminate and occurs within all age groups. Often the abuse begins with threats and verbal assaults when then escalates to violence. It not only physically injures someone but also affects them emotionally and psychologically. A healthy marriage is one where both individuals understand and respect each other. There is no place for abu...

Female Genital Mutilation - A harsh tradition of Africa

Image
On the Lands of the North African countries, a ritual performed on young women is the most horrible and terrifying thing that I have come across. A surgical ritual in which women were forced to undergo Female genital mutilation, performed without using any kind of anesthetics. It is chilling to even think about it, and the worse it's still performed in almost 30 African Countries.  Existing as common practice as 30 years ago in Somalia, Mali, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Chad, and Senegal. This barbaric act was considered a necessary part of raising a girl and a way to prepare her for adulthood and marriage. An act that involves the partial or total removal of the external genitalia. Sometimes even sewing up the vaginal opening. Some women have partial or total removal of the clitoris, some have the folds of flesh around the vagina removed, some have both those areas removed, some have the vaginal opening narrowed, often by stitching, and some women have some form of piercing, scraping, ...

The mysterious Serial Killer of California- Zodiac

One of the most haunting and traumatizing experiences for the people of Northern California was the terror of the " Zodiac killer", which started in the late 1960s and had no end to it. He was no normal murderer, taunting the investigative departments, sending encrypted letters with details of the murder, the craving for the spotlight, all while he was killing people as a means of adventure. It sometimes is difficult to even pick the food we wanna eat, whereas it was an easy task for Zodiac to kill people at random. He is believed to have murdered 5 people and had attempted murder on two. While broadcasting his murders, he even mentioned about a dozen other victims he had killed, which could not be attributed to him officially He shot his first two victims in the parking lot, and another two seven months later, out of which one survived. When the first two victims were found, the investigative department didn't think of it as a serial killing, when several months later tw...
